Moscow Was Again Named The Most Expensive City Of The World
Moscow is considered to be one of the most expensive cities of the world for foreign staff of international companies. As it was noted in the message of British Consulting Agency Mercer, the capital of Russia is followed by London, on the third place of the list is Seoul. Tokyo is on the forth, and New-York is on the fifth place.
In the surveys made by Mercer, the prices are compared for more than 200 kinds of production and services, including dwelling rent, transport, meals, clothes, house appliances and entertainment, in that price segment that can be encountered by any average manager working abroad. Thus, in Moscow according to agency's data, the most expensive coffee is in cafes and restaurants, and the cheapest one is in Buenos-Aires.
Let me remind you that last year Moscow had also occupied the first place in rating of the most expensive cities of the world, compiled by Mercer specialists. The second place in 2006 year rating was assigned to Seoul, the capital of South Korea. Tokyo, occupied the first line in rating of year 2005, was lowered to the third place. They are followed according to living costs in descending order by Siangan (Gong Kong), London, Osaka, Geneva, Copenhagen, Zürich, Oslo. Sankt Petersburg was on the 12th place, Kiev - 21.
Mercer Company annually carries out special surveys for rating drawing up of the most expensive cities of the world. The specialists take into consideration the cost of more than 200 articles of products, clothing, home appliances and services in world major mega polices. The prices for entertainment and transportation are also considered. An index for living costs obtained in this way is used by different corporations in order to calculate compensation amounts that are to be paid to abroad employees.
